Western Maryland Adventures is dedicated to providing quality customer service for each of our guests. By providing well-trained, knowledgeable, service-minded staff, Western Maryland Adventures is recognized as the premier provider of recreation in the region. It is our sincere hope that through these personal experiences in the natural resource a spark of stewardship will be ignited in our guests that will continue to burn passionately for a lifetime.

Meet The Owners

Partners Tom Acton and Shelley Miller own Western Maryland Adventures. Collectively their experience includes nearly 30 years service with the Maryland Department of Natural Resources. The last four years of their service with DNR were completely dedicated to the creation and implementation of the Nature Tourism program. They have been instrumental in designing the structure of the program, working with private guides and outfitters in developing cooperative partnerships and working with the public in creating packages for adventure vacations. Western Maryland Adventures opened in May 2003 as a one-stop shop for guests looking to “Get Outside & Play!”

In addition to his law enforcement duties he was also a Canoe Guide for state operated trips on the Potomac River offered through Green Ridge State Forest. Tom has led guided hikes and provided interpretive programs for the State Forest and Park Service. He also designed and constructed the 12-mile mountain bike trail in Green Ridge State Forest.
